New abolitionist pamphlet available

By now, most readers of this forum have probably seen this announcement, but I am being thorough.

The Boston Vegan Association outreach pamphlet has been completed. Feel free to share on your own sites, within your groups, via email, etc.

Non-Violent Action: Perz reply to Peyser

* Please cross-post widely *

In "Exclusive Non-Violent Action: Its Absolute Necessity for Building a
Genuine Animal Rights Movement", Jeff Perz argues that the only ethical and
effective tactics open to non-human (and human) animal rights activists are
non-violent. In his essay "Response to Perz's 'Exclusive Non-Violent Action,"
Daniel Peyser objects to the arguments and historical evidence Perz presents.

Perz considers Peyser to be an abolitionist and Perz has written a friendly,
yet rigorous, reply ...

Facts and assumptions wich support abolitionism

Hi!

Wich facts and assumptions do you think is the ground for abolitionist animal rights strategy?

I ask this becauce of my commission as a board member in Animal Rights Sweden ("Djurens Rätt" in swedish). Last weekend we hade a meeting with the board where we had some pretty good discusssion about strategy. I talked about my ideas about changing our strategy to an abolitionist one, and all the other board members disagreed about my ...

The "tipping point"

Can anyone tell me what is viewed statistically to be the level of a critical mass of a social justice movement (in this case vegans) which is considered the tipping point to achieve success and for the movement to be a real force?

For some reason, I have the percentage 15% floating around in my head. I must have read it somewhere but I don't know where.

Would be most grateful if anyone has any ...

The 1680 – Think about it for a second?

Hi everyone :)

A friend and I had what we hope will be a really good advocacy idea. It was inspired by the pamphlet produced by Gary Francione and also the Animal Food Counter on the Abolitionist Approach website. The text below is what we've produced to send to groups with the intention of getting members involved.

If anyone here can help distribute this idea and/or get ...

Single Issue Campaigns

Dear All,

I did a search for this and couldn't find a thread on it so I thought I would start one. I have heard a large number of arguments regarding this issue.

I want to get a discussion and a few view points on this subject going, obviously vegan outreach is definitely the most effective form of activism. However:

Do any of you think that certain single issue campaigns and peaceful demonstrations do any ...

vegan education

Hello,

I can't post on advanced animal rights talk, but i still would like to share my experience about vegan education.

Yesterday I participated in one peaceful action, which was organized to draw attention to the practice of killing the deer in a national park by national park service. The excuse for killing: "that kind of deer is not native specie in the area and it is necessary to eradicate the entire population for... environmental ...

Legal liberations & rescue efforts: Are they worth it?

I found a post on the main ARCO site about legally re-homeing 13,500 chickens. I was wondering what action was about; here's what I found:

In spring 2005 4000 chickens were legally rescued from slaughter after an agreement was made with the farmer to let us re-home them once their “productivity” had ended. Chickens are considered, by farmers, to have an egg laying productivity of only 72 weeks; after which they are sent to ...

A hypothetical: dogs used in therapy.

Here's a hypothetical:

I have the opportunity to rescue 20 dogs from an overcrowded shelter. I do so. However, in order for me to provide a comfortable environment, the necessary medical care, food, etc. I have to bring each dog to the school I teach at for mentally disabled children, and allow the children to interact in a therapeutic setting with the dogs. In accordance with this arrangement, the dogs will be used in this ...

targeting scientists for vegan outreach?

I've been reading (again) about the teams of scientists who figured out the cascading effects of overhunting even one species of marine life. Taking out one link ends up in dead zones and toxic algae blooms. You all know the story.
Cyber Diver News Network: Overhunting Caused Mass Marine Life Extinction

It occurs to me that those of us who have contact with researchers like this might be able to convince some of them to ...
