Dear ARCO's Abolitionists,
I would appreciate as many replies to this post as possible.
As some of you know, I have written a book review of Joan Dunayer's _Speciesism_ in which I claim that Dunayer appropriates and misrepresents the abolitionist ideas of Gary L. Francione. The long version of my review is available at:
http://www.speciesismreview.info
The shorter review is at:
http://www.speciesismreview.info/abridged.htm
Joan Dunayer replied to the above review. Her reply is at:

My refutation of Dunayer's reply can be found at:

Please answer my 15-question poll below, plus the one-question Forum Board poll:
1) Have you read any book by Francione? If so, which one(s)?
2) Have you read any academic journal article by Francione? If so, which one(s)?
3) Have you read any blog or essay, or listened to any podcast, of Francione?
4) Have you read Joan Dunayer's book _Speciesism_?
5) Have you read Joan Dunayer's article "Advancing Animal Rights"?
6) Have you read, in whole or in part, Jeff Perz's article "Anti-Speciesism"?
7) Have you read Jeff Perz's article "Adulterating Animal Rights"?
8) Have you read any of Jeff Perz's comments, originally posted on the e-list "AR Views" regarding Dunayer?
9) Have you read any of Steve Kaufman's comments regarding Dunayer, originally posted on the "AR Views" list?
10) Are you vegan?
11) Do you oppose campaigns to create or enforce laws that specify the conditions under which non-human animals are used by industry?
12) Jeff Perz's articles "Anti-Speciesism" and "Adulterating Animal Rights" argue and provide evidence that Joan Dunayer's book _Speciesism_ misrepresents and appropriates the abolitionist ideas of Gary L. Francione. Do you agree or disagree with Perz, or are you undecided? Why?
13) In his article "Anti-Speciesism" and elsewhere Jeff Perz says his main reason for writing his _Speciesism_ articles is to foster debate among activists that helps activists think critically about what strategies harm vs. help animal rights. Specifically, Perz argues that if Dunayer misrepresents Francione, and if activists follow Dunayer's theory and practical advice, then their actions on behalf of non-human animals will be based upon misrepresentations of someone else's ideas. This runs the risk of harming non-human animals. The above is Perz's contention. Do you agree with it? In other words, do you believe that any interested animal rights activists are -- in some way -- helped in their deliberations about effective activism by Perz's articles?
14) Are non-human animals better off or worse off after Perz wrote his _Speciesism_ articles? Why?
15) Approximately when did you join the ARCO's Abolitionists group?
Thanks for your time and interest,
Jeff Perz
