We are writing to you from Portugal, in Europe.
As surely many of you also feel, every day we feel that animal rights are being seriously misrepresented and incorrectly advocated (to the point that they are not actually being advocated as rights). Large and resourceful so-called animal rights organisations such as PETA, which are internationally perceived as actual animal rights organisations, and extra-large national and international animal welfare organisations such as the HSUS or WSPA, which are many times confusedly treated as animal rights organisations (and which many times conveniently allow people, activists, journalists to continue believing that they are animal rights organisations), are completely controlling the social and political agenda pertaining to animal issues. That is the case in the US and in Europe and certainly not for the benefit of animals – more than often, actually, only to harm them, to damage or actually boycott the chances of seeing them be socially and politically freed from exploitation, and to further delay the end of their enslavement.
These organisations may refer to veganism as an important and/or respectable choice – they never portray it as a non negotiable and non-subjective moral duty that binds every human being in the world – or as an ultimate goal to achieve some day – as if the animals have time to lose and as if becoming vegan requires years of adaptation and needs to be a progressive step.
Those organisations which speak against speciesism often make speciesist choices, decisions and policies, sending out the wrong message so many times. Those which claim that their goal is “total animal liberation” obsessively kill and advocate the mass-killing of dogs and cats, and persistently campaign against those which practice and work to implement a no-kill policy, trying everything and using their large resources and influence to boycott the efforts of the latter, thus condemning millions of dogs and cats to death. At the same time, these ones who are supposedly campaigning for “total animal liberation” claim to promote veganism (or just vegetarianism, as softly as needed, so to not scare people away) allegedly so that pigs, cows and chicken, among others, are not killed – despite the fact that they kill dogs and cats and say that those who try to save them are “no-clue” instead of “no-kill”. But those advocates of pigs, cows and chicken do not hesitate in going to bed with the very industries that confine, terrorise, torture and kill millions of these animals – humanely, that is, whatever that means –, only to achieve minor changes which make no important differences whatsoever for the lives and deaths of countless animals.
As abolitionist animal rights advocates, we believe that it is time for abolitionists from all over the world to come together, get organised and get active as a pro-active and internationally co-ordinated movement that should be represented by an organisation. It is time for such an organisation to expose and oppose what is going with animal rights, considering that exposing and ending this fraud is on very important short-term goal to achieve in order to eliminate the obstacles to the progress of the abolition of animal slavery being developed and cultivated by people and organisations who claim to belong to the animal rights movement.
As abolitionist animal rights advocates, we believe that it is time to create The World Abolitionist Alliance for Animal Rights (with this name or any other good name), a worldwide organisation which should bring together individuals, grassroots groups and professional organisations, from all over the world, which are truly committed to, and want to be actively involved in, the advocacy of the fundamental rights of non-human animals in the only morally acceptable way to represent these rights: the vegan and abolitionist way.
We are determined to go ahead with this project, for the animals. We would like to know what you think about it and of any suggestions you may have regarding such a project.
